Celebration of Global Breastfeeding Week – August 2026

Celebrating the Global Breastfeeding Week in the month of August 2026, the Department of Ayurveda Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology and Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics organized an awareness program in Collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, and department of Moelijat, University of Colombo.

Under the SDG 2 aims to achieve “zero hunger”, a group of BAMS students of the faculty performed a short awareness drama on the importance of breastfeeding for the staff members of the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation on 31.08.2026 from 12.00 pm to 1.00 pm at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation.

The programme was intended to create awareness about the importance and benefits of breastfeeding for both the mother and child, while addressing some common misconceptions and highlighting the importance of family and workplace support for breastfeeding mothers.

We believe that this programme was a valuable health-awareness activity for the staff and also provided our students with an opportunity to enhance their aesthetic performs, share their knowledge and health-promotional messages with the community.

The event was Coordinated by: Senior lectures of the faculty on Ayurveda and Unani pediatrics, Dr. WASS Weerakoon, Dr. IAM Leena, Dr. OTMRKSB Kalawana, Dr. MHF Haq and Dr. K. Livera -Demonstrator of the department
