
A Guest Lecture conducted on “A Global Perspective on Ayurveda: Its Perception, Practice, Integration within Western Countries and Ayurveda-Based Wellness Tourism Abroad”
A guest lecture on “A Global Perspective on Ayurveda: Its Perception, Practice, Integration within Western Countries and Ayurveda-Based Wellness Tourism Abroad” was organized by CGU–Faculty of Indigenous Medicine (FIM), University of Colombo on 21st May 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Main Auditorium, FIM.
The session was delivered by Dr. Deepika Rodrigo, an Ayurveda doctor, educator and clinical director with extensive international experience in Ayurveda education and practice. During the lecture, she shared valuable insights into the growing global acceptance of Ayurveda, its integration into healthcare systems in Western countries and the increasing demand for Ayurveda-based wellness tourism worldwide.
The program was conducted with the objective of motivating and inspiring First Year BAMS and BUMS students (2024/2025 Academic Year) by exposing them to the international scope and opportunities available in the field of traditional medicine. The speaker highlighted career prospects, professional development opportunities and the importance of maintaining high standards of practice and research in Ayurveda.
The lecture witnessed the active participation of approximately 140 students, along with academic staff members. The interactive session enabled students to clarify their doubts and gain a broader understanding of Ayurveda’s global relevance. The event concluded successfully with positive feedback from the participants, who found the session informative, motivating and beneficial for their academic and professional growth.
The workshop was organized under the patronage of Prof. SP Molligoda, Dean of the Faculty. It was coordinated by Dr. (Mrs.) R.H.S.K. De Silva – Coordinator and Dr. (Mrs.) S. Weerasekara – Secretary – CGU, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.
