Environmental Awareness Street Drama Marks World Environment Day 2026 Celebrations

As part of the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations, the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, organized an Environmental Awareness Street Drama on 12 June 2026. The event was jointly organized by the Department of Dravyaguna Vignana and Swasthavritta, the Environment Committee, and the Art Circle of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine under the theme “Green Minds, Green Actions, Green Future.”

Although the programme was originally scheduled to be held under the shade of the Kumbuk tree within the faculty premises, it was subsequently conducted in front of the Administration Building. The event attracted the participation of undergraduate students, academic staff, and non-academic staff of the faculty.

The street drama was performed by undergraduate students of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine. Through a creative and thought-provoking performance, the students highlighted pressing environmental issues such as environmental pollution, improper waste disposal, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and the importance of adopting environmentally responsible behaviors. The performance effectively communicated the message that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility and that individual actions can make a significant contribution towards a sustainable future.

The programme served as an innovative platform for environmental education and awareness, successfully engaging the audience while promoting the values of environmental conservation and sustainability. The combination of artistic expression and environmental engagement encouraged participants to reflect on their role in protecting natural resources and maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment.

The Faculty extends its sincere appreciation to the undergraduate student performers, the Art Circle, the Environment Committee, and all organizers and participants whose dedication and enthusiasm contributed to the success of the programme.
