Technology transfer bringing revenue stream to the University of Colombo

 

University of Colombo and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura researchers collaborated tirelessly for several years to achieve 14 objectives related to the new research-based frugal innovation called the “Sudarshana Suspension”. Their work ensured that the medicine met and exceeded drug safety and efficacy standards.
The research team comprised of Dr W.A.S. Saroja Weerakoon and Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera from the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, and Professor Dulanie Gunasekera and Professor Sugandhika Suresh from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Both Universities have taken a giant step towards research commercialization by transferring the technology for their first research-based herbal drug innovation through an exclusive license agreement with the industry. On March 7th, 2023, a member of the research team handed over the revenue generated from this innovation to the Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor HD Karunaratne.
