Orientation Programme of the Certificate Course in Ayurveda Wellness Tourism (First Intake)

The Orientation Programme of the Certificate Course in Ayurveda Wellness Tourism (First Intake) was successfully held on 09th May 2026 at the Mini Auditorium, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo in hybrid mode. The programme was conducted the Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine. for the inaugural session the Dean of the Faculty, Professor S.P. Molligoda, distinguished guests, academic staff, and newly enrolled students were participated.

The event was officially commenced with the National Anthem, followed by the Dhanwantari Pooja dedicated to Lord Dhanvantari, the divine physician and father of Ayurveda, while chanting the Dhanwantari Stotra by Dr. O.T.M.R.K.S.B. Kalawana. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Dean, distinguished guests, course coordinators and the course participants.

The official welcome address was delivered by Professor K.P.K.R. Karunagoda, Coordinator of the Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit, after that Special addresses were also delivered by Professor S.P. Molligoda, Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, and Dr. W.A.S.S. Weerakoon, Head of the Department, emphasizing the importance of Certificate Course in Ayurveda Wellness Tourism , integrated with Ayurvedic principles in the present healthcare setting as well as field of tourism.

Course handbooks were distributed among the participants by the Dean, Head of the Department, and the Course Coordinator to facilitate their academic journey. During the orientation session conducted by the Course Coordinator, Dr.IAM Leena, students were introduced to the objectives, structure, curriculum, academic regulations, and practical training components of the Certificate Course in Ayurveda Wellness Tourism. Information regarding course coordination, student responsibilities, learning outcomes, and future career opportunities in the wellness tourism sector was also discussed.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. I.A.M. Leena, Senior Lecturer and coordinator of the wellness tourism course, then programme, concluded successfully with active participation and enthusiasm from the students, marking a promising beginning for the first intake of the Certificate Course in Ayurveda Wellness Tourism. Dr. Kenan Livera served as the compere for the event.
