
General Convocation 2025 – Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo
The Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo—the premier institution for Indigenous medical education in Sri Lanka and the highest-ranked university in the country—held its General Convocation for the 2025 graduates on 29 August 2026 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
The ceremony was a grand and memorable occasion, attended by graduates, their parents, distinguished guests, and members of the academic community. It marked a significant milestone in the graduates’ lives and provided an opportunity for parents and well-wishers to share in the joy and pride of their children’s academic achievements.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Prof. Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, Prof. SP Molligoda, and numerous academic staff members representing the six Departments of the Faculty graced the occasion.
A total of 156 undergraduates were awarded the Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree, and 38 undergraduates were awarded the Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) degree, representing the 2018/2019 academic year. The ceremony also recognized outstanding academic achievements through the presentation of a range of awards, prizes, and gold medals to students who demonstrated exceptional performance throughout their five years of study at the faculty.

The following students from the 2018/2019 academic year received Gold Medals and other prestigious awards in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements:

- Senior Professor ERHS Sujatha Ediriweera Gold Medal for the Best Performance in Kayachikitsa – MLM Weerasinghe
- Jayantha Edirisinghe Award – CS De Silva
- Dr. Kelani Karunasena Memorial Gold Medal for the Best Performance in Ayurveda Pharmacology – WPDT Gunarathna
- Professor SG Ranasinghe Gold Medal – CS De Silva
- Dr. Pandit KGP Jayathilake Gold Medal for Excellent Overall Performance – SKS Lokubalasuriya
- Oriental Medical Science Fund Annual Prize – MLM Weerasinghe
- University of Colombo Award for Academic Excellence in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery – MLM Weerasinghe
