
Awareness Programme “Blending with University Culture and Balancing Academic Life”
The Student Counselors of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, successfully organized an awareness programme on “Blending with University Culture and Balancing Academic Life” on 2nd July 2026 at the Faculty Auditorium. The programme was conducted with the participation of 123 First year BAMS and BUMS (2024/2025) undergraduate students with the objective of facilitating their successful transition into university life and equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain a healthy balance between academic responsibilities and personal wellbeing.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Rajitha De Silva, Former Senior Student Counselor of the University of Colombo, who shared extensive experience and insights into university life and student wellbeing.
The session commenced with a welcome and introduction by Dr. OTMRKSB Kalawana, student counselor, FIM followed by an interactive presentation delivered by Dr. Rajitha De Silva.
The programme focused on effective study habits, academic planning, and time management techniques to help students balance academic commitments with extracurricular activities and personal responsibilities. Considerable attention was given to promoting mental wellbeing, building resilience, managing stress, and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships.
Students were further informed about the student counseling services and other support mechanisms available within the University of Colombo. The interactive nature of the programme encouraged active student participation, with many students raising questions and sharing their concerns regarding university life.
The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer discussion, enabling students to clarify their doubts and gain further advice.

Appreciation is also extended to Prof. SP Molligoda Dean, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo for her guidance and approval for the programme and to all participating students for their enthusiastic involvement, which contributed to the success of the programme.
