Annual Research Symposium 2021, Institute of Indigenous Medicine

The Annual Research Symposium (ARS) of the University of Colombo, which unifies all symposia held by the respective Faculties, Institutes, Campus, the School and the library of the University, is one of the main events in the University calendar. The Institute of Indigenous Medicine collaboratively organized Annual Research Symposium 2021 – Institute of Indigenous Medicine (ARS 2021- IIM) first-time with University of Colombo as per the guidance given by the Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo and the Director, Institute of Indigenous Medicine on 24th of November 2021 via hybrid mode. The theme of the Symposium is Interdisciplinary Approach on Research in Indigenous medicine. Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne, Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo was the chief guest of the Symposium and her participation was elegant to the event.

There were two keynote speech at the inaugural session by distinguished keynote speakers Prof. P Hemanth Kumar Parlapothula, Dean Post Graduate Section & Head of the Shalya Tantra, National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, India and Prof. Mohd. Anwar, Chairman, Department of Ilaj bit Tadbeer, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India. An excellent coverage to theme of the symposium was given by our renowned keynote speakers. Scientific Sessions were held on the same day on 24th of November 2021 and 26 research papers were presented by academics of IIM  in three subsequent scientific sessions.

The aim of the symposium was to provide an overview of the latest information on Interdisciplinary Approach on Research Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Traditional Medicine.  This symposium provided a scientific platform for academic staff members and postgraduate students of the University of Colombo. Moreover, this symposium also gave opportunities to our undergraduate students to get valuable knowledge and experiences from experts on interdisciplinary research studies in Indigenous Medicine.

In addition, another important feature of this symposium is the distinguished alumni and academics of the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, were honored for their contribution and dedication at the university as well as national and international level at The Inaugural ceremony of Annual Research Symposium 2021 (ARS 2021), University of Colombo which was held on 23rd of November, 2021 at New Arts Theater of the University of Colombo.
