Workshop on “Transdisciplinary Approaches to Indigenous clinical interventions in Gediwana Pilika”

The Department of Ayurveda Medicine and Indigenous Medicine, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, successfully conducted a workshop titled “Transdisciplinary Approaches to Indigenous Clinical Interventions in Gediwana Pilika” on 8 July 2026 at the Faculty Main Auditorium. The programme was organized for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students with the objective of enhancing their theoretical knowledge, practical competencies, and clinical skills in Ayurvedic and Indigenous approaches to the management of Gediwana Pilika.

The workshop commenced at 9.00 a.m. with an informative session conducted by Senior Lecturer Dr. N. D. N. Jayawardhane, who delivered comprehensive lectures on the theoretical foundations, clinical perspectives, diagnostic principles, and evidence-informed Indigenous interventions related to Gediwana Pilika. The session encouraged active participation and provided participants with an in-depth understanding of contemporary and traditional therapeutic concepts. The afternoon session, held from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m., was conducted by Emeritus Professor H. A. Ariyawansha. This session focused on therapeutic approaches and practical clinical applications in Indigenous medicine. Participants were provided with valuable demonstrations and hands-on training, enabling them to develop practical skills and improve their clinical competence in applying traditional therapeutic techniques. The workshop attracted more than

200 final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students, reflecting the strong interest in advancing knowledge and clinical expertise in Indigenous medicine. Interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on skill development significantly enriched the learning experience and promoted the integration of theoretical knowledge with clinical practice.

The event was successfully coordinated by the Organizing Committee of the Department of Ayurveda Medicine and Indigenous Medicine. The workshop achieved its intended objectives by strengthening participants’ academic understanding, practical competencies, and appreciation of transdisciplinary approaches in the clinical management of Gediwana Pilika. Overall, the programme was highly successful and made a valuable contribution to the professional development of future Ayurvedic and Indigenous medical practitioners.
