Orientation of the Postgraduate Diploma in Indigenous Orthopaedic Treatments (PGIOT) Programme 2026/2027

The inauguration ceremony of the Postgraduate Diploma Programmes 2026/2027 was successfully held on Friday, 3rd July 2026, at the Main Auditorium of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine (FIM), University of Colombo. The event marked the commencement of a new academic journey for professionals seeking advanced knowledge and skills in the field of Indigenous Medicine.

Following the inauguration ceremony, the orientation programme of the Postgraduate Diploma in Sri Lankan Indigenous Orthopaedic Treatments (PGIOT) was conducted at the Mini Auditorium of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine. The session provided an overview of the programme structure, curriculum framework, learning outcomes, clinical components, assessment methods, research project and other important academic and administrative aspects of the course.

The course introduction and relevant programme details were presented by the 2026/2027 Course Coordinator, Dr. R.H.S.K. de Silva, who emphasized the objectives, scope, and professional relevance of the postgraduate diploma in enhancing competencies related to Sri Lankan Indigenous Orthopaedic practice. The expectations, professional interests, and learning objectives of the participants were also discussed and considered to ensure that the programme effectively addresses their academic and clinical development needs.

A total of 31 Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) graduates have enrolled in the PGIOT programme for the academic year 2026/2027, representing a significant step towards strengthening postgraduate education and professional advancement in Sri Lankan Indigenous Orthopaedic care.
