Faculty of Indigenous Medicine Joins World Environment Day 2026 Celebrations with Big Cleaning Campaign

In commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, successfully conducted a Big Cleaning Campaign on 10th  June 2026 under the theme “Green Minds, Green Actions, Green Future.” The programme was organized by the Department of Ayurveda Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics and Community Medicine in collaboration with the Environment Committee of the Faculty.

The initiative was organized in alignment with the University of Colombo’s campus-wide environmental campaign, “Green-Clean-Sweep,” coordinated by the Center for Environmental Initiatives (CEI) to promote environmental sustainability and responsible stewardship of the university environment.

The cleaning campaign brought together undergraduate students, academic staff, and non-academic staff who actively participated in cleaning and beautifying the faculty premises. Participants engaged in waste collection, segregation and disposal of waste materials, cleaning of common areas, and maintenance of the faculty surroundings. The programme highlighted the importance of collective action in preserving a clean and healthy environment while fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among members of the faculty community.

At the conclusion of the programme, traditional herbal porridge (Kurakkan Kenda) and refreshments were served to all participants in appreciation of their valuable contribution. This provided an opportunity for students and staff to gather together and further strengthen their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable living practices.
