The Indigenous Medical Faculty Students’ Union (IMFSU) of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, is the official representative body for the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine students. It was established under the Sri Lankan Parliament Act No. 16 of 1978 and operates under the University of Colombo Student Union By-Law No. 1 of 1989. The IMFSU comprises 13 student representatives, including a President, Vice President, Secretary, Junior Treasurer, Editor, and 8 Committee Members, all elected through legal processes. The IMFSU plays a vital role in representing the students of faculty   at Faculty Board Meetings in FIM

The current IMFSU was established under a renewal policy declaration in the 2022/2023 Academic Year. Adhering to this, over the years IMFSU has succeeded in maintaining a fully democratic, transparent and student-centred representative body, effectively functioning for the benefit of the students as well as for national needs.

IMFSU always ensures political neutrality and prevents the influence of external political parties from taking root in the faculty. It specifically stood up against bullying and created a pleasant learning environment for all students without discrimination.

IMFSU establishes a culture of harmonious coexistence of all groups with mutual understanding and respect within the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine of the University of Colombo.

IMFSU conducts regular committee meetings where matters are discussed extensively and decisions are taken democratically, and where necessary general assembly meetings where all students can directly participate in the discussions.

The IMFSU stands for the needs and rights of students in the present as well as the future. It strives to protect the “right to free education” of all citizens, and does not hesitate to lead and fight when it is threatened.

All students proudly stand with the IMFSU with rational reasoning and enthusiasm for that purpose. In addition, IMFSU maintains various educational and recreational facilities at the faculty for the well-being of the students, carrying out several annual projects and also coordinating the extra-curricular activities of all societies and batches at the faculty. IMFSU represents the students of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo at national level organizations and alliances as required, ensuring political neutrality and protecting the rights of students as a priority.
