WORKSHOP ON SDG 11 – “SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES” FOR BAMS AND BUMS UNDERGRADUATES – FACULTY OF INDIGENOUS MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF COLOMBO

The Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo successfully conducted the fifth workshop of the Lunch Time Talk Series as an interactive dialog under the theme Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDG) 11 – Sustainable cities and communities and titled “Sustainable Practices for Tourism Solutions” on 29th January 2025, from 12.00 noon to 01.00 p.m. at the Mini Auditorium of the Faculty. The session was facilitated by Mr. Chinthana Duminduhewa, a distinguished specialist and practitioner in Tourism and Sustainable development, a lead trainer for Sustainable Practices for Sri Lanka at Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), and a senior visiting lecturer at state and private universities including the Sustainable Tourism Unit of the University of Colombo and Tourism Industry.

The workshop aimed to enhance awareness of SDG 11 and its relevance to sustainable tourism, explore the integration of indigenous knowledge and traditional medicine in promoting sustainable tourism, encourage interactive discussions and inspire responsible tourism practices. 55 participants including BAMS and BUMS Undergraduates and Academic staff from the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo participated in the programme and the event was coordinated by Dr. (Mrs.) N.D. Kodithuwakku – Senior Lecturer (Grade I), Dr. D.A.L. Munasinghe – Senior Lecturer (Grade II) and Dr. (Mrs.) R.M.D.A. Amarasiri – Lecturer (Probationary), Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.

The event was successfully completed with the guidance of Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dean, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. Dr. (Mrs.) R.H.S.K. De Silva, Coordinator of the Career Guidance Unit, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.
