
WORKSHOP ON SDG 05 – “GENDER EQUALITY” FOR BAMS AND BUMS UNDERGRADUATES – FACULTY OF INDIGENOUS MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF COLOMBO
The Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo successfully conducted the sixth workshop of the Lunch Time Talk Series as an interactive session under the theme Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDG) 05 – Gender Equality and titled “How to Establish Yourself in a Foreign Country as a Woman” on 18th February 2025, from 12.00 noon to 01.00 p.m. at the Mini Auditorium of the Faculty. The session was facilitated by Dr. Nalani Damsara Weerasinghe – BAMS (UoC), Yoga Teacher Training (YOGARNEW,USA), Dip. In Counselling Psychology, Cert. in Panchakarma (India), Dip. In Panchakarma & Dip. In Ayurvedic Beauty Culture.
60 participants including BAMS and BUMS Undergraduates and Academic staff of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo participated in the programme and the event was coordinated by Prof. SD Hapuarachchi, Dr. (Mrs.) J. Rumaiza and Dr. MMM. Nifras – Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.
The programme helped the participants to feel inspired to pursue leadership roles in healthcare, gain awareness of challenges and strategies to overcome them, develop confidence, resilience, and self-advocacy skills, and build a supportive network for mentorship and experience-sharing.
The event was successfully completed with the guidance of Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dean, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. Dr. (Mrs.) R.H.S.K. De Silva, Coordinator of the Career Guidance Unit, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.
