
Workshop on First Aid and Fire Extinguish conducted for Final Professional ( 2018/2019 ) BAMS and BUMS students
Under the guidance of Prof. Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine and with the significant assistance and thematic advice of Head of the department of Ayurveda surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology & Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics, Prof. K.P.K.R. Karunagoda and Head of the department of Unani Clinical Medicine, Dr A.M. Muthalib , one day training workshop on First Aid and Fire Extinguish was conducted in collaboration with Divisional Secretariat, Disaster Relief Division, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte on 20th of February 2025 from 9.00am to 5.00pm for Final Professional( 2018/2019 ) BAMS and BUMS students.
The workshop was aimed to equip students with essential practical skills and knowledge for recognizing and handling emergency situations, provide hands – on experience with first aid tools, increasing students’ confidence to act decisively in emergencies, understanding fire hazards with prevention methods and developing strategies to respond fire emergencies safely.
The first aid program was conducted by First Aid Instructor of the Colombo branch of the National Red Cross Organization and Fire Extinguish program was conducted by Fire Extinguish Instructor of Disaster Management Centre, Meethotamulla. 131 BAMS students and 35 BUMS students were participated for the program.
Dean, Heads of relevant departments of Faculty of Indigenous Medicine and Assistant Divisional Secretary of Divisional Secretariat, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte was participated with few staff members for the certificate awarding ceremony and closing remarks.
The event was coordinated by Dr R.L.Y.U. Rathnayaka, Senior Lecturer of the department of Ayurveda surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology & Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics and Dr A.F.M. Joonus Senior Lecturer of the department of Unani Clinical Medicine and demonstrators of relevant departments of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine.
