The Inauguration Ceremony of the Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit of Faculty of Indigenous Medicine

The Inauguration Ceremony of the Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit and the first postgraduate program of  “Postgraduate Diploma in Indigenous Orthopedic Treatment” under this unit was inaugurated on the 20th day of May 2023 with the presence of the Chief Guest, Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo. Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Saumya Janakanthi Kumari, the coordinator of the Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit, academic staff members, and the administrators of the faculty participated in this occasion. Mr. KAS Edward, the registrar of the University of Colombo, Emeritus Professor K.A.P. Siddhisena, Dr. Dhammika Abegubawardena, Commissioner of Ayurveda, the Director and administrative medical officers of the National Ayurveda Teaching Hospital, Borella also participated in this event. The launching of the e-version of the student handbook of the “Postgraduate Diploma in Indigenous Orthopedic Treatment” and the distribution of student ID cards were also done at this event.

The main objective of the Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit is to develop, organize and ensure the smooth functioning of postgraduate and mid-career development programmes to fulfill the vision of the faculty of Indigenous Medicine and enhance the professional skills of all the stakeholders engaged in  Ayurveda systems of Medicine in Sri Lanka. At present, the unit is operated by a Unit Coordinator, Programme Coordinators, and supporting staff and is equipped with other necessary resources. While the Unit Coordinator gives the academic and administrative leadership to the overall activities of the Unit, each programme coordinator gives academic leadership and is directly responsible for the smooth functioning of the activities of the programme under the Dean’s purview.
