Medical Health Camp held at Sri Jayawardhanepura Jayashekharamaya, Rajagiriya

On the special request of the Chief Incumbent, Venerable Kolonnawe Narada Thero, a Medical Health Camp was organized by the Career Guidance Unit (CGU) along with the Department of Ayurveda Medicine and Indigenous Medicine and the Department of Unani Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine (FIM), University of Colombo on the 3rd of October 2024 at the Sri Jayawardhanepura Jayashekharamaya, Rajagiriya.

Approximately 75 patients were treated during the health camp, with several referred to the clinics at National Ayurveda Teaching Hospital (NATH), Borella for further medical care. This health camp provided a valuable platform for clinical students to gain hands-on experience, applying their practical knowledge under the guidance of the faculty’s experienced academic staff, while simultaneously offering healthcare services to the local community.

The camp was conducted under the supervision of the following distinguished faculty members:

Prof. PK Perera – Dean, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, Prof. RDH Kulatunga – Head of the Department, Department of Ayurveda Medicine and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. (Mrs.) AM Muthalib – Head of the Department, Department of Unani Clinical Medicine, Dr. (Mrs.) RHSK de Silva – Coordinator, CGU – FIM and several lecturers from the faculty participated namely Dr. (Mrs.) AG Samarawickrama – Department of Ayurveda Medicine and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. (Mrs.) SKACS Senanayake – Department of Ayurveda Medicine and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. (Mrs.) FN Jamaldeen – Department of Unani Clinical Medicine, FIM, UoC offering their expertise and supervision.

BAMS Students (2020/2021) academic year and BUMS Students (2018/2019) actively engaged in the health camp, gaining practical skills and real-world experience.

The Medical Health Camp provided essential healthcare services to the community while enriching the students’ clinical experience. It was an excellent demonstration of the Faculty’s commitment to community engagement and student development.
