World Ayurveda Day 2025

The 10th World Ayurveda Day was celebrated on 23rd September 2025 at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, under the global theme “Ayurveda for People and Planet”. The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the Department of Ayurveda, the High Commission of India in Colombo, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, and the Faculties of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, and the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine.

 

Student Events Organized in Parallel with World Ayurveda Day 2025

Parallel to the formal proceedings of the 10th World Ayurveda Day, a range of student-centered academic and cultural events were organized with the aim of encouraging active participation, promoting creativity, and strengthening the understanding of Ayurveda among undergraduates. These events not only created a festive and engaging environment but also helped nurture leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while aligning with the global theme “Ayurveda for People and Planet.”

A series of academic competitions were conducted, including Quiz Competitions that tested students’ knowledge of Ayurveda, basic sciences, and current global developments in traditional medicine. The Debating Competitions in Sinhala, Tamil, and English offered a platform for students to critically analyze contemporary issues related to Ayurveda and healthcare while honing their reasoning, public speaking, and argumentation skills. The Oratory Competitions in Sinhala, Tamil, and English gave students the opportunity to present persuasive speeches on Ayurveda-related topics, fostering confidence, clarity of thought, and public communication abilities.

In addition, creative and visual competitions added a vibrant dimension to the celebrations. The Canvas Poster Competition allowed students to express the philosophy and relevance of Ayurveda through art, merging scientific knowledge with creativity. The Video Competition showcased student-produced short films and documentaries on Ayurveda’s role in modern life and sustainability.
