Orientation Programme – BAMS & BUMS Degree Programmes (Academic Year 2024/2025)

The Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, proudly inaugurated the Orientation Programme for the new entrants to the BAMS and BUMS degree programmes on 16th February 2026 at the Faculty Main Auditorium. The event welcomed 235 newly enrolled students and their parents, marking the beginning of an inspiring academic journey. The ceremony was graced by Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo; Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo ; and Professor Vajira Dissanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo underscoring the significance of the occasion. Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, warmly welcomed the gathering outlining the academic programs and highlighting the global demand for graduates in the field. The honourable Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, together with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, addressed the audience, underscoring the importance and uniqueness of Indigenous Medicine within the broader medical landscape, and encouraging students to embrace both responsibility and pride in their chosen discipline. The distinguished gathering included the Registrar, Heads of Departments, academic and administrative staff, and student counsellors. Both the Senior Student Counsellor of the University Prof. Nilanthi Senanayake and the Permanent Student Counsellor of the Faculty Dr. YAUD Karunarathne addressed the audience, assuring parents and students of the safety, guidance, and support available throughout their undergraduate journey.The programme was coordinated by Dr. PASN Silva and Dr. EMGKN Begum, and concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by the coordinator, Dr. PASN Silva expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event. This dignified and memorable inauguration reflected the pride of the institution and reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing future professionals in Indigenous Medicine.
