INAUGURATION OF 04 CERTIFICATE COURSES AND CERTIFICATE AWARDING CEREMONY

The Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, ceremonially inaugurated its latest intake of certificate programs and conferred certificates upon successful candidates at a distinguished event held on 14 February 2026 at the West Wing Building Auditorium of the Faculty. The program was jointly organized by the Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit (PGMCDU) and the Department of Ayurveda Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics and Community Medicine.

The occasion was honored by the presence of Ms. Miyuki Eguchi, Secretary and Head of Cultural and General Affairs of the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, who graced the ceremony as Chief Guest. The event was further dignified by the participation of the Dean, Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera; the Coordinator of the Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit, Professor Kaumadi Karunagoda; the Head of the Department of Ayurveda Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics and Community Medicine, Professor SKMK Herapathdeniya; together with course coordinators, academic staff, and guests.
A total of 80 students were enrolled in four certificate programs, reflecting the faculty’s expanding commitment to interdisciplinary and globally relevant education:
1.Advanced Certificate Course in Japanese Language – 1st Intake
2.Certificate Course in Basic Japanese Language – 3rd Intake
3.Certificate Course in Yoga Therapy – 6th Intake
4.Certificate Course in Massage Therapy – 11th Intake
In addition, 14 students were awarded certificates for the successful completion of the Certificate Course in Basic Japanese Language – 2nd Intake, marking a significant academic milestone in their professional development.
A highlight of the ceremony was the vibrant Japanese cultural presentation by the certificate awardees of the Japanese Language program. Their performances not only demonstrated linguistic competence but also reflected a deep appreciation of Japanese culture, symbolizing the strengthening academic and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Japan.
In their addresses, both the Chief Guest and the Dean underscored the growing significance of multilingual proficiency and complementary therapeutic disciplines such as Yoga and Massage Therapy in advancing wellness tourism and broadening international collaboration in Indigenous Medicine.
Since its establishment as the 10th Faculty of the University of Colombo on 1 March 2023, the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine has maintained a strong commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and the continuous enhancement of professional competencies across diverse spheres of Indigenous Medicine.
The faculty extends its sincere congratulations to all newly enrolled students and certificate recipients and remains confident that their dedication and expertise will contribute significantly to the advancement of Indigenous Medicine at both national and international levels.
