
Inauguration Ceremony of the Postgraduate Diploma Programs – 2025/2026
The Inauguration Ceremony for the second intake of the Postgraduate Diploma programs in Panchakarma, Kaumarabhritya in Streeswasta Sanrakshana, Kaumarabhritya in Bala Poshana, and Dravyaguna Vignana in Nutraceutical Product Development, along with the third intake of the Indigenous Orthopedic Treatment program, was ceremonially held on 14th June 2025 at the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.
A total of 67 postgraduate scholars were officially enrolled in these specialized programs for the academic year 2025/2026, reflecting growing interest and demand in advanced studies in Indigenous Medicine. The ceremony commenced with a dignified academic procession, setting the tone for a memorable and inspiring event.
The occasion was graced by Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Professor Karunathilake underscored the critical importance of nurturing professionally competent experts in Indigenous Medicine to address both national and global healthcare needs.
Adding further distinction to the ceremony, Dr Dammika Abegunawardhana, the Commissioner General of Ayurveda delivered a special address, emphasizing the transformative role of postgraduate education in strengthening, preserving, and advancing traditional medical systems, particularly Ayurveda.
A highlight of the event was the formal launch and symbolic distribution of handbooks for all five Postgraduate Diploma programs, which were ceremonially presented to the Vice Chancellor, the Commissioner General of Ayurveda, and the newly enrolled postgraduate scholars.
The event was further dignified by the presence of Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. M. W. S. J. Kumari, Course Coordinator of the Postgraduate and Mid-Career Development Unit, Heads of Departments, Coordinators of the Post graduate Diploma programs, academic staff members, and other distinguished guests. Their participation and support contributed immensely to the success of this momentous academic occasion.
