
General Convocation 2024- Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo
The Faculty of Indigenous Medicine of the University of Colombo, the premier institution for Indigenous medical education in the country and the highest-ranked university in Sri Lanka, held its General Convocation for 2024 graduates on August 27, 2025, at the Bandaranaike International Memorial Conference Hall.
The ceremony was a glamorous, well-attended and highly celebrated event which marked one of the most memorable days in the graduates’ lives and the parents to witness the graduation of their children as well.
The event was attended by the Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Prof. Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, Prof. Pathirage Kamal Perera and many academics from the six Departments of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine. 210 undergraduates were awarded the Degree of Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), and 53 undergraduates were awarded Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) at the ceremony related to the 2017/2018 academic year. Many awards, prizes and medals were also handed out to undergraduates who excelled at their studies during their five years of stay at the faculty.
The following students from the 2017/2018 Academic year of the faculty were awarded Gold Medals and Prizes for their outstanding performances:
Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery
- Professor Gunapala Amarasinghe Gold medal for the best performance in Balaroga – Mr. KM Jansz
- Senior Professor ERHS Sujatha Ediriweera, Gold medal for the best performance in the subject Kayachikitsa – Mr. KM Jansz
- Jayantha Edirisinghe Award – Mr. KM Jansz
- Dr Kelani Karunasena Memorial Gold Medal for the Best Performance in Ayurveda Pharmacology – Mr. KM Jansz
- Professor SG Ranasinghe Gold medal – Mr. KM Jansz
- Pandit KGP Jayathilake Gold medal for excellent overall performance – Mr. KM Jansz
- Oriental Medical Science Fund annual prize – MR. KM Jansz
- University of Colombo Award for Academic Excellence in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery – KM Jansz
