Free Diabetes Screening Programme at the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo

The Department of Unani Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, in collaboration with the Diabetes Association of Sri Lanka, National Diabetes Centre, Rajagiriya, successfully organized a Free Diabetes Screening Programme on 16th December 2024 at the Faculty’s Resource Center. The event aimed to promote health awareness among faculty members, non-academic staff, security personnel, and cleaning service staff. The programme was initiated under the leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) A.M. Muthalib, Head of the Department of Unani Clinical Medicine, and was coordinated by Dr. F.N. Jamaldeen and Dr. M.M.M. Nifras. The invaluable guidance and participation of Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dean of the Faculty, greatly contributed to the event’s success. Experts from the National Diabetes Centre, Rajagiriya, including Dr. Shiny Livera and Dietitian Malishika Madhushani, played a crucial role in conducting screenings and providing dietary advice. The programme was generously sponsored by Union Assurance and Dr. M.S.M. Rihaz, Market Manager for Herbal Medicine. Special appreciation goes to Dr. M.J.H.P. Sabra and Dr. M.N.F. Naazneen for their contributions to organizing the event. The collective effort of the faculty members and staff ensured the success of this initiative in promoting diabetes awareness and early detection.
