Dr Pushpa Kulanatha Wins Global Award for AI – Based Learning in Ayurveda

Dr Pushpa Kulanatha, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, has received a Global Excellence Award 2025 from the Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance (GMA). The alliance, co-founded by Tsinghua University and supported by UNESCO’s international education frameworks, announced the award at the GMA Global Conference held on 2-4 December 2025 in Monterrey, Mexico. The GMA Awards recognise excellence in technology-enhanced education, especially in STEM subjects, and provide an international platform for educators to share innovations in higher education.
As the Principal Architect, Dr Kulanatha was honoured for leading an innovative project integrating Artificial Intelligence with traditional Ayurveda. Rooted in her Action Research on anxiety-driven learning, she independently developed a framework to systematise high-intellectual Sanskrit philosophical concepts into digital learning structures. This approach ensures that complex heritage is accessible to all learner categories—including those identified in ancient texts as “Avara” learners. This specialised integration is featured on XuetangX, a global online learning platform with over 160 million users worldwide.
Following this recognition, Dr Kulanatha has been invited to speak at the Online Education Dialogue (OED) on 25 March 2026. She will present her breakthrough on how AI can be effectively incorporated into Ayurveda Medical Education to a global audience. This achievement underscores the University’s expanding role in digital education and research.
