Constructive Alignment in Curriculum Design for Student-Centered Learning

Under the guidance of Prof. Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine (FIM) and Chairperson of the Indigenous Medical Education Unit (IMEU), the IMEU successfully organized a workshop on “Constructive Alignment in Curriculum Design for Student-Centered Learning” on 18th December 2024 from 9.00am to 11.00am. The workshop featured Prof. Gominda Ponnamperuma as the resource person, a distinguished expert in medical education from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and Consultant to the Indigenous Medical Education Unit (IMEU) of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine. It was held at the Mini Auditorium of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine.

The workshop aimed to familiarize academics with the principles of constructive alignment, improve their skills in designing student-centered curricula, and ensure alignment between learning outcomes, teaching methods, and assessments. More than 30 academic staff members actively participated, engaging in discussions. The event was organized by Dr. Y.A.U.D. Karunarathne and coordinated by Dr. MMM Nifras and Dr. RMDA Amarasiri.
