About Our Faculty
Faculty of Indigenous Medicine (FIM) is a new faculty of the university of Colombo Sri Lanka with its origin dating back to 1977 as an affiliated institute. Historical development of the faculty dates back even further to 1929 when the College of Indigenous medicine.
The Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo is organized a significant reunion event on March 10th 2024 to commemorating the first anniversary of its transition to a faculty which established in 1929 as the college of Indigenous Medicine with 95 years of Academic excellence in Ayurvada, Unani, Siddha and Traditional Medicine.
Over the years, the undergraduate population of the faculty has grown rapidly and currently accommodating more than 1200 undergraduates. FIM offers a diverse range of programmes such as certificates, diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels with a commitment to uphold high standards in Indigenous education.
Currently, it consists of six departments offering the Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree specializing in Ayurveda medicine and surgery and Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) degree specializing in Unani medicine and surgery. The faculty has an academic staff of 72 lecturers consisting of 10 Professors and many PhD holders.

For the first time in its history, the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine (FIM) is hosting a remarkable event, ‘Back to Faculty 2024,’ aimed at reuniting its graduates from the past 95 years. These alumni have gone on to contribute their expertise to various institutions, both in Sri Lanka and around the world. The anticipated participation of alumni at this distinctive event hosted by the FIM involves them joining together to commemorate their shared journey, engage in discussions about prospective contributions and support for the FIM and their future involvement and support to the FIM,
University of Colombo, establish connections, and reminisce about their experiences at the faculty. Hence, establishing stronger links between alumni and the faculty will bring increased resources and opportunities to the University. Leveraging their wealth of knowledge, experience and memories can be a catalyst for enhancing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of current students within the faculty. This initiative will benefit both past and the present undergraduates of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine of University of Colombo Alumni members have the potential to contribute to the faculty’s development in various ways. Principally, they can support the faculty by offering scholarship funds to aid underprivileged, differently abled, and exceptional students who are currently enrolled. Additionally, alumni can contribute to a fund on infrastructure development of the faculty addressing the rising number of annual student enrolments. Moreover, alumni members can share their knowledge and experience with current students and assist with essential skills. Conversely, alumni stand to gain numerous advantage from this endeavor, including opportunities for social gatherings to reconnect and build networks, social schemes to enhance alumni welfare, and access to current undergraduates in the faculty for collaborative endeavors such as surveys, part time employment and innovative idea creation connected through the career guidance unit of the faculty.
This gathering is arranged by a committee of lecturers and administrative and non-academic staff of the faculty with the leadership of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo and the Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine. Scheduled for March 10 of 2024 from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., the event will take place at the faculty premises.

Raffles at events serve as exciting opportunities to engage attendees while adding an element of anticipation and fun
– DJ
Fun remix track that incorporates energetic beats for dancing involves blending various musical elements, rhythms, and styles to keep the energy high
– Fun games
Paper dancing, balloon dancing, dart game, musical chairs, bottle filling and many more fun activities
The Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo invites all its alumni to Back to Faculty 2024 to reminisce, reconnect, recreate cherished memories, and celebrate the transformative power of education.
This event is open for registration to individuals and their family, who have previously studied in the fields of Ayurveda, Unani, or Siddha Medicine, as well as those who have been worked as Academic and Non- Academic staff members in the Institute of Indigenous Medicine at the University of Colombo.
