Lunch Time Talk : How Fair trade Contributes to Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability
The Career Guidance Unit of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, successfully organized a Lunch Time Talk on SDG 11 – “Sustainable Cities and Communities” on 19th June 2026 for BAMS and BUMS undergraduates. The session was conducted by Mrs. Iresha Sanjeewani, Fairtrade Country Coordinator, on the topic “How Fairtrade Contributes to Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability.”
The programme was conducted as an interactive onsite dialogue from 12.15 p.m. to 1.15 p.m at Mini Auditorium – FIM. Approximately 60 participants, including undergraduate students and academic staff members, attended the session. The discussion enhanced participants’ understanding of sustainable development, ethical trade practices and the social, economic and environmental impacts of Fairtrade, while encouraging them to contribute towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in their future professional and personal lives.
The event was organized under the patronage of Prof. SP Molligoda, Dean of the Faculty. It was coordinated by Dr. (Mrs.) R.H.S.K. De Silva – Former Coordinator, CGU and Dr. (Mrs.) S. Weerasekara – Secretary – CGU, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.
