Commemoration of World Diabetes Day 2024 – Diabetes and Wellbeing “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps”

World Diabetes Day, observed on November 14 each year, is a global awareness campaign led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO). This day is an opportunity to highlight the importance of prevention of diabetes, management, and research, as well as to support those affected by the disease. In commemoration of this significant day, under the theme of “Diabetes and Wellbeing – Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps” the Career Guidance Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Unani Clinical Medicine and the Department of Ayurveda Medicine and Indigenous Medicine, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, was organized a special event of Diabetes Day Walk 2024 (Route: Faculty of Indigenous Medicine – Kotta Road, Rajagiriya – Ayurveda National Hospital, Borella and return to the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine) on 28th of November 2024. Second Professional (2020/2021) BUMS & BAMS students participated in the event, as an opportunity to spread awareness, inspire positive lifestyle changes, and build a strong, supportive community. They educated the community about lifestyle advice for diabetes management by distributing leaflets, wearing themed dress, and carrying banners showing support for diabetes awareness.

The event was successfully completed with the guidance of Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dean, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. Dr. R.H.S.K. De Silva, Coordinator of the Career Guidance Unit and Dr. A.M. Muthalib, Head of the Department of Unani Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine were crucial in the planning and execution of the event, offering thematic guidance throughout both the preparation and implementation phases. Professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers (Probationary) and Demonstrators of Faculty of Indigenous Medicine have joined us with their participation.

The event was coordinated by Dr. (Mrs.) M.J.H.P. Sabra, Lecturer (Probationary), Department of Unani Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, and Dr. (Mrs.) M.D.P.
