About Us

The Arts Circle was founded by the students of Faculty of Indigenous Medicine in 2024, under the esteemed guidance and distinguished patronage of Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunarathne, Vice-Chancellor, University of Colombo and distinguished patronage of Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dean, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine. Founder Coordinator of the Arts Circle, Dr. P.A.N.G. Perera together with Dr. A.F.M. Joonus, currently represent the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine at the Arts Council, University of Colombo.

Art Circle of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine is a vibrant community dedicated for exploring the intersections of art, culture and wellness. It is aimed to provide an opportunity to demonstrate and uplift the aesthetic skills of the students as well as their interests towards fine arts & performing arts; through multifaceted platforms such as arts, photography, musical & dancing programmes, cinema, theatre and other cultural activities.

Arts Circle extends its involvement by directing the students to different competitions, Arts related activities and other cultural events organized by different faculties, universities and other authorized organizations as well. Moreover, the Arts Circle of FIM, plays a leading role in organizing Arts and Culture related events, workshops and activities in and out of the discipline. Arts Circle of FIM, comprises Music Circle, Dancing Circle and Drama Circle of the faculty by their respective representatives. We believe that creativity plays a vital role in holistic healing and that the arts can enhance the practice of indigenous medicine.

Mission

Nurture the Arts and culture through different practices that reflect the diversity of multiple communities and protect them to the future generation.

Objectives

1.Enrich the Arts through multiple practices related to different traditions
2.Uplift aesthetic skills of the students and the faculty staff through Arts related events and activities
3.Provide the opportunity to demonstrate aesthetic skills through multifaceted platforms
4.Enhance the interactions between students and the faculty staff
5.Promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciate values of multiple cultures
6.Create sensible individuals with human values through the Art
7.Upbring the continuous learning on Arts through direct and indirect involvement of the students and the staff
