10th World Ayurveda Day celebration held on 23rd September 2025 at the auditorium of the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies, University of Colombo

The 10th World Ayurveda Day was jointly organized by the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Department of Ayurveda, High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine of the University of Colombo. High Commissioner of India, Mr. Santosh Jha and Hon. Minister of Health Dr Nalinda Jayatissa graced 10th Ayurveda Day at University of Colombo.
The program was conducted with the theme of “Ayurveda for People and Planet” aiming of strengthening the quality, safety and effectiveness of Ayurvedic medicine, and promoting its integration with modern medicine par with sustainable development goals. The keynote speech was delivered by retired Professor R.S. Jayawardena. Professor Jayawardena was felicitated for his career engagement for the development of Ayurveda in Sri Lankan context.
Ayurveda Commissioner General Samanthi Ranasinghe, Additional Secretary of the Indigenous Medicine Division of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media Shammi Denawatte, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo Professor Indika Karunathilaka, Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine of the University of Colombo Professor Pathirage Kamal Perera, Dr. Parakrama Hemachandra of the Borella Ayurveda National Hospital, Professor K.P.P. Peiris, Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Indigenous Medicine University, along with many scholars, professors, lecturers, Ayurveda specialists, doctors and medical students were present at this event. This event main academic scientific organizing and management fragment was conducted by the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. Parelle to this event Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo students took part cereal competitions and events to popularizing Sri Lanka Ayurveda Medicine in globe and winners were awarded.
