Instructions for Submitting Abstracts

The organizers of the International Conference invite submission of scientific abstracts for oral presentation or poster presentation. Abstracts of the paper in any of the above themes should be data oriented with reflecting major findings of the research study. Theoretical statements should be avoided in abstract.

The abstract should contain no more than 250 words in IMRAD format and is to be typed in MS Word, Times New Roman, Font 12 and space 1.5. The abstract should be sent to icaust@fim.cmb.ac.lk

as an attachment.

Instructions for Undergraduates of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine

Final year undergraduate students of the FIM, University of Colombo should submit their abstracts for the undergraduate symposium.  They should prepare the abstract according to the format given below and should be sent to icaust_ugforum@fim.cmb.ac.lk as an attachment.


Guidelines for Oral Presentations 

1. Duration of the oral presentation is 08 minutes, followed by 02 minutes of question & answer session.
2. Presentations should be in English and prepared in .ppt/.pptx format only.
3. The first slide of the presentation should include the presentation title, paper ID, name(s) of the author(s), and the affiliation/s of the author/s.
4. It is recommended to use light or dark consisted background throughout the presentation.
5. Font colors should be in readable color and size to achieve good contrast to the background color.
6. Photographs and videos should be of adequate resolution.
7. The use of company logos or trade names should be avoided on any audio-video aid that is used in the presentation.
8. References/Bibliography slide should before the last slide.
9. Recommend to use the last slide for acknowledgments, and include the contact e-mail id of the presenter or main author.
10. Power point presentations should be submitted to the respective session coordinator before the commencement of the session.
11. If you are a virtual oral presenter,
a) Please prepare or record your presentation according to the guidelines for the oral presentations using any appropriate app.
b) Recorded presentations should be submitted to the respective session coordinators on or before, 08.08.2024.



Guidelines for Poster Presentations

Please follow the guidelines below when preparing for the poster presentation.
1. The Poster Sessions will be conducted physically on the 10th of August 2024 at FIM, University of Colombo.
2. Presenters must attend the conference and be there physically at the FIM, University of Colombo during their assigned session as per the schedule.
3. Printed posters will be displayed on screens. Size of the poster should not be more than 3 (height) X 4 (width) square feet
4. Font should be large enough to be visible from 3 meter distance. Font colors should be in readable color and size to achieve good contrast to the background color.
5. Photographs should be of adequate resolution.
6. The use of company logos or trade names should be avoided the presentation.
7. Each presenter should physically present to present his/her presentation
8. If the designated presenter cannot participate in the conference physically, a co-author must attend the conference and present the research findings.
9. Presenters must be at the room where the respective session is to be conducted before the start time of the session and display the poster presentation on the allocated screen before the beginning of the session
10. Each poster will be displayed for 2 – 3 hours and authors can explain the content of the poster highlighting the findings within 06 minutes. After the presentation, the judges shall ask questions on your research findings for evaluation purposes.
11. Each presentation will be evaluated by a panel of judges and the winners will be awarded at the closing ceremony held on the 10th Afternoon.
12. Undergraduate Research Forum
a) Poster presentation of UG students should be prepared as digital posters (E poster). Presentations should be in JPEG (image), size 36’’× 48’’ (3’×4’) and single side slide which will be displayed for 5 minutes in the screen.
